SHILLONG: The sitting Shillong MP Vincent Pala on Thursday gave a clean chit to Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on his alleged nexus with a Garo Hills-based militant outfit saying that those who brought such allegations should bring forth substantial proof and evidence to corroborate their claims.
Talking to media persons here on Thursday, Pala said that if the Opposition alleges such nexus then they should go to the court and file a petition.
“If they claim such nexus then why don’t they produce any proof,” Pala said while questioning the timing of such serious accusations being made when Lok Sabha elections are round the corner.
Stating that any so-called ‘nexus’ between politicians and militants is not good for society and the country, Pala said that he has full confidence in the Chief Minister of not having any such supposed nexus.
“I don’t think he (Dr Sangma) is that kind of a person who will have nexus with militant outfits,” he said.
He also stated that allegations and counter allegations would always be there as long as there is ongoing rivalry even as he asserted that making calls on someone’s cell phone cannot prove such nexus.
Recently, ANVC-B leader Mokus Marak had alleged nexus between the Chief Minister and ANVC chairman Dilash Marak while claiming that the call records of Dilash, Wanding, Dr Sangma and his personal secretary will ‘confirm the nexus’.
On the other hand, UDP also raised the issue before President Pranab Mukherjee and demanded the Chief Minister’s removal besides calling for a CBI inquiry into the alleged nexus.
