SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has threatened to drag those Opposition parties to court which had accused him of having nexus with militant outfits if they continue to do the same in future.
“I am keeping silent at the moment but would certainly take legal recourse by filing a defamation case against the UDP and NPP if they continue to defame me for political mileage,” Dr Sangma said here on Wednesday.
Taking a dig at NPP leader Purno A Sangma, he asserted that the people of Garo Hills were smart enough to know “which politicians are close to militants”.
“During the 2003 Assembly elections, the former Lok Sabha speaker fielded the brother-in-law of a top ANVC leader against me. This itself proves who has a close connection with the militant outfit,” the Chief Minister said.
He also said that the former Lok Sabha Speaker while addressing a public meeting at Rongsak before the 2013 Assembly elections had criticized the State Government for attempting to neutralize the concerned militant group.
“The same people are against the move of the Government to act against the militant group,” Dr Sangma said.
On UDP, the Chief Minister said that the party is wasting its time by going to Delhi. “The Ministry of Home Affairs has its own way of gathering information on links of politicians with the militant group. They also have the profiles of each and every politician,” the Chief Minister said. He said that by being the Chief Minister, he also has an inside information of “who is doing what.”
