New Delhi: The Delhi High Court Wednesday directed the central government to “expeditiously” frame guidelines for conduct of public servants to be followed outside office.
A division bench of Chief Justice N.V. Ramana and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw disposed of a PIL but asked the union home ministry to see if there was a requirement for framing further guidelines on public servants making remarks outside the workplace.
“The point here is that people in high places should be restrained (from making such remarks),” the bench said.
During the hearing, the petitioner pointed out that the service rules do not provide guidelines for conduct of public servants to follow while making remarks particularly against women.
The petitioner primarily approached the court demanding suspension of CBI Director Ranjit Sinha for making “derogatory and sexual comments” against women.
Sinha Nov 12 last year compared betting with a grave derogatory remark about women, saying “if you can’t prevent rape, enjoy it”.
“It has become a habit of people in senior positions to treat the issue of sexual assault lightly,” the petitioner said. (IANS)
