Pulse polio programme

The Office of the District Medical and Health Officer, East Khasi Hills, will conduct the National Pulse Polio Immunization Programme, 2014 on January 27 from 9 am to 4 pm in designated booths across the district followed by house to house search and coverage activity on January 28-29. All parents have been requested to bring their children below five years of age to the arranged booths in their respective locality for oral administration of polio drops.

Netaji Jayanti

Greater Shillong Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Birthday Celebration Committee has chalked out a detailed programme for celebrating and observing the 117th birth anniversary of Netaji at Shillong on January 23 in a befitting manner. President of the Committee, N Bhattacharjee, informed that the main celebration will be held on the U Soso Tham Auditorium premises at 8.30 am where a statue of Netaji is installed.

Function

Members of the World Mission Church of God will distribute blankets to BPL families at a function on January 24 at 2.30 pm at Jhalupara Community Hall.

Dry day

The Deputy Commissioner (Excise), East Khasi Hills, has declared Dry Day on January 26 throughout the district on account of Republic Day.

Lok Adalat

The District Lok Adalat will be held at the District Civil Court, Nongstoin, on January 28. Defaulters and debtors who are willing to settle their dues under Lok Adalat are requested to make use of the opportunity.

Awards

The Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills, has informed that based on the proposal sent by the District -level Selection Committee, the State-level Selection Committee has selected Mawmluh and Nongkhlaw from Nongstoin Block, Mawsynram from Mawthadraishan Block and Mawlong Nonglyput and Nongmrai from Mairang Block for the Clean and Green Village Award, 2013.

Dr. Sarah Ralte, Assistant Professor, Department of Anatomy, NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, has been selected for inclusion (from India) in the 31st Edition of Marquis Who’s Who in the World – 2014, one of the world’s most renowned biography directories, published by Marquis Who’s Who, America’s leading biographical publisher since 1899.

The Aam Aadmi Party will convene a meeting on Friday at 11 am at Shillong Club to discuss the party’s prospects in Meghalaya. Sources said that issues relating to enrolment of members in Meghalaya and the upcoming Lok Sabha elections are likely to feature in the meeting.
