JOWAI: The night road blockade called by the AJYWO, KSU, FKJGP and HNYF on January 27 and 28 in East and West Jaintia Hills has received support from traditional institutions.
In a release issued here, the headman, Umkiang village, Silent Sutnga who is also the chairman of the 9 village joint Dorbar, informed that nine villages in Umkiang has extended its full support to the night road blockade sponsored by NGOs in protest against the adamant attitude of the State government toward their demand to immediately repair the National Highway NH-44 from Jowai till Malidor.
According to Sutnga, the road condition has been in a deplorable condition from Sunapur till Malidor for the last two years. In 2013, the Synjuk ki Dorbar of nine villages under Umiang area decided to call for indefinite night road blockade.
“With due respect to the government, through the Executive Engineer PWD, the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills, we have called off our proposed agitation program, but the road condition has remained the same”, Sutnga said.
