Three women arrested with heroin

Aizawl: Three women were arrested and 17.5 gm of heroin was seized from them during a raid in Aizawl by the officials of Excise and Narcotics department, sources said. An official statement today said that the contraband was reportedly smuggled from Myanmar for selling to the drug addicts in the state. V L Kapi (53) of Aizawl, Lalunghnemi (29) of Aizawl and Nitiali (45) of Mizoram-Myanmar border Zokhawthar in Champhai district were arrested for carrying the banned drugs on Wednesday. The accused were charged under section 21(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and remanded to judicial custody at the Central Jail in Tanhril near Aizawl, the statement said. Two bombs found ahead of R-Day celebrations

Imphal: Two bombs were found by security personnel from two different places on Friday. Police said a powerful IED was found near Torbung village in Bishenpur district. Security personnel and police were informed by the local people and a team of 1/11 GR and 6 AR safely removed it. In another incident another IED was found by a team of 6 Assam Rifles from Ushongbung. Manipur Police bomb disposal squad removed it and detonated. Police has intensified vigil and surveillance in view of the Republic Day celebrations. Militant groups of Manipur and other neighbouring states have called for boycott of the celebrations and a general strike on the day. (UNI)

Animal parts peddlers arrested

Diphu: Four persons, including two women, were arrested near Assam-Nagaland border today on charges of trading in wild animal parts. Acting on a tip-off, police arrested the four persons under Dillai police station area and also recovered cash from them and seized their vehicle. According to police, the arrested have been identified as Raidang Engti (34), Mensing Tokbi(30),  Rosmi Tokbipi (25) and Jonaki Tokbipi (30). Cash of Rs 24.80 lakh was seized from them. All the accused persons have confessed that they received the money from a Dimapur-based rhino horn trader by selling one rhino horn. Police is interrogating them for extracting more information in this matter. (UNI)

Security beefed up in Tripura in view of boycott call

Agartala:  Security was beefed up in Tripura as some insurgent outfits, including the National Liberation Front of Tripua (NLFT), has called for boycott of the Republic Day, police said on Friday. Security was enhanced near the residence of VIPs, Raj Bhavan, Civil Secretariat, Assembly House and patrolling was intensified in the remote and hilly areas by Tripura State Rifles (TSR), the sources said. The BSF has intensified its vigil along the 856-km long international border with Bangladesh. Bomb and dog squads were making regular checks in vulnerable areas and the vehicles entering the towns including the capital city are also being checked to thwart any attempt of carrying fire arms or explosives, they said. The Union Home ministry has also dispatched a note to the state Home department to make tight security arrangement after insurgent groups issued the call to boycott the Republic Day. (PTI)
