ULFA couriers killed in blast inside a car

Guwahati: A bomb that was being carried in a car to Guwahati went off inside a car near Umrangshu in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Thursday night killing two couriers of the anti-talks faction of the United Liberation Front of Assam or the ULFA (Independent), police claimed on Friday.
Additional Director General (ADG) of Assam Police, A P Raut informed that two couriers of the outlawed ULFA (anti-talks) were killed in a powerful blast inside a car near Umrangso .
The official said the bomb was being brought by the couriers engaged by the ULFA to Guwahati.
The powerful blast ripped apart a Maruti car at seven kilometer area near Gorompani under Umrangso police station.
The car was registered with the district transport office on Nagaon and the owner has been identified as one Mohammad Moinuddin, who was not in the car at the time of the blast.
A PAN card bearing the name of one Sahabuddin of Lanka, Nagaon, was recovered from the pocket of one of the deceased.
Meanwhile, one live grenade was recovered near Assam State Transport Corporation bus stand at Dhekiajuli on Friday morning.
Local people alerted the police on spottingthe hand grenade, whichwas later defused by bomb experts. Earlier, one person was injured while a grenade went off near a petrol pump in Dhekiajuli town in Sonitpur district of Assam.
As many as six militant organizations of North East including the anti-talks faction of the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) or ULFA( Independent) has called for boycott of Republic Day celebration and a general strike on January 26 throughout the region in protest against ‘continued colonial occupation of the region by India’.
Elaborate security arrangement has been made in the run up Republic Day celebrations.
The militant groups have called for a boycott and general strike, staring from 0100 hours of January 26 till 1700 hours the same day.
