1,000-plus take part in Run for Democracy

SHILLONG: More than 1,000 men, women, boys and girls took part in the Run for Democracy, with the massive turnout even catching the organisers by surprise with many last-minute registrations.
The race began and ended at the State Central Library and was organised by the Meghalaya Athletics Association in partnership with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Meghalaya.
The start to the Over-15 race was flagged off by the state’s CEO, P Naik, while B Dhar, Additional CEO, did the honours for the Under-15 and Over-50 race.
The closing function and prize distribution started at 10:30am at U Soso Tham Auditorium.
The oldest runner in the race was B Diengdoh.
Results:
Over-50 men – P Kharjahrin, H Marbaniang, E Shyngdiar, Micheal Syiem.
Over-50 women – Marcylin Marwein, Pleaseme Rani, Christilian Synrem, Thrila Nongspung.
Over-15 boys – Mikhel Sing Ramsiej, Stilin Jyrwa, Jomsing Ramsiej, Haneef ME.
Over-15 girls – Kyntimon Marwein, Dadeibankynmaw Marwein, Bandasharai Marwein, Darishisha Iangjuh.
Under-15 boys – Edward Sungoh, Krashchester Mawlong, Silvester Jyrwa, Wanlang Jyrwa.
Under-15 girls – Laembok Ramsiej, Kyntihun Syiemlieh, Rimanbha Khongsit, Waleisha Ramseij.
