Moonlight joins UDP ranks

JOWAI: Former JHADC CEM and sitting MDC from Jowai Central, Moonlight Pariat, was formally inducted into the UDP in the presence of party president and former Chief Minister Dr. Donkupar Roy, working president Bindo M Lanong, party MLAs Jemino Mawthoh and David Kharsati, beside prominent party leaders of Jaintia Hills including former MDC Michael Saioo, District UDP general secretary and former social activist LD Lakiang, former Mookaiaw MLA, Mihsalan Suchiang, at a grand function attended by thousands of UDP supporters at Tpep-pale Community Hall on Monday.
Moonlight will contest the forthcoming election as the UDP candidate from Jowai South against Dunno Nongpluh of the Congress.
“I wish I could have joined the UDP few years ago but the door had not opened for me. Now I have joined the party and hope that the party ticket will be allotted to me,” Pariat said during the induction ceremony. Meanwhile, the UDP informed that as many as 14 applications have been received from aspiring candidates for allotment of party tickets for the district council elections scheduled on February 24.
Boost to NPP
In a major boost to the National People’s Party (NPP), Suly Lyngdoh along with all his supporters joined the NPP and has been named as the party candidate from Mawsynram constituency for the upcoming district council election.
Lyngdoh  had unsuccessfully contested the 2013 Assembly election as an Independent Candidate and secured over 4500 votes.
