SHILLONG: Having paved the way for former MLA Process T Sawkmie to contest from Mawlai, KHNAM chief Pyndapborthiaw Saibon on Wednesday announced his decision to contest the upcoming district council election from Shella.
While speaking to newsmen, Saibon said he decided to contest the election from Shella, his home constituency. This would be Saibon’s third attempt at winning an election from Shella. Earlier, he had unsuccessfully contested in the 2003 and 2008 Assembly elections from his home constituency.
Saibon would take on sitting MDC Teinwell Dkhar (UDP) and Pynthymmaibor Chyne (Congress).
UDP ticket issue resolved: Former Umroi MDC Field Marshall Mawphniang has finally agreed to allow partyman Kior Singh Hinge to contest the district council election from Umroi on a UDP ticket.
Following a marathon eight-hour-long meeting at the residence of party president Dr. Donkupar Roy on Wednesday, the UDP leadership was able to convince Mawphniang to allow Hinge to contest the election.
A relieved UDP State Election Committee secretary Allantry F Dkhar informed that the former MDC has agreed to support and campaign for Hinge in the February 24 election.
Dkhar also announced the names of four more candidates for the district council polls.
Those who were named in the fourth list include sitting legislator HB Nongsiej (Pariong-Mawthadraishan), Rolan Mawsor (Nongstoin), Fedrick Lynshang (Laban-Mawprem) and Andrew Charles Gare (Mawshynrut).
