SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee on Thursday, observed the 66th Death Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, at Congress Bhavan.
MPCC president DD Lapang illuminated the gathering on the greatness of this leader who led the Indian National Movement with an indomitable spirit, following a path of non violence.
He reminded all present on how Bapuji, as Gandhiji was fondly called, spread the message of Ahimsa and Satyagraha. He also shared about interesting events on the life of Mahatma Gandhi.
Others who spoke on the occasion were Polycarp Marak and Manbor S Warjri, General Secretaries MPCC and MPYC president Gabriel Wahlang.
The function started with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and offering of floral tributes to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi by the Chief Guest and then followed by Party leaders present.
The program was presided over by Oris Syiem Myriaw, vice president, MPCC and the vote of thanks was offered by Kamal Marbaniang, General Secretary, Shillong City Congress Committee. The function was attended by party functionaries and office bearers from the PCC, DCCs and the BCCs.
Similar programs were also organized by various District Congress Committees in the State.
