SHILLONG: Two Congress leaders – Charles Pyngrope and John F Kharshiing – who are in the race for the party ticket to contest the Shillong Lok Sabha seat, have left it to the wisdom of the Congress High Command to choose the right candidate.
The entry of Congress legislator Ronnie Lyngdoh in the fray has added a new dimension to the selection of candidate for the Lok Sabha elections.
“Anybody is free to apply for the party ticket as the last date has not been finalized. Moreover, it is good to have more candidates,” said Pyngrope, when asked to comment on the race for the Congress ticket.
Pyngrope also made it clear that there was no question of lobbying for the seat.
“I leave it to the decision of the High Command and there is no question of lobbying,” he added.
Kharshiing expressed confidence that the Congress will select someone who would be able to retain the Shillong seat.
Kharshiing also welcomed more Congress candidates in the ticket race, terming the same as proof of the abundance of leadership in the Congress.
Kharshiing also said that he would continue with whatever task is assigned to him, should he be denied the ticket.
Sitting member Vincent H Pala, who is the third aspirant for the party ticket, was not available for comments.
