Education scam

SHILLONG: The police have come under scanner for not acting on the FIR lodged by CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing against the then Education Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh and others who were allegedly involved in the education scam.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, Kharshiing said that it was outrageous to know that Police could not get access to the original documents related to the case and instead waited for the High Court of Meghalaya to provide the documents.

The Court has already made it clear that the documents are with the CBI office.

“It is strange that there is no clarification or follow up statement from the State DGP”, Kharshiing said, adding that passing the buck to the High Court as being the reasons for delay on action of the FIR filed way back in 2012 is not acceptable.

According to Kharshiing, Police knows well to get the documents if they are serious enough to investigate.

“Score sheets of Mawkyrwat center, Baghmara Center, East Khasi Hills, Jowai, Amlarem, and many others have been so clearly tampered and even the photo copies could have been sent for FSL which could prove the case”, Kharshiing said.

The NGO leader said that since the High Court has given a clarification that the original documents are with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), “Police are dilly dallying on the case with some pretext or the other, obviously to protect those who are in power like the former Education Minister, other Ministers, some MLAs, the present Forest Minister, Deputy Chief Minister (RC Laloo) among others while other officers are made the scapegoat in such instances”.

The CSWO demanded that those involved should be brought to task as they have been playing with the lives of so many deserving candidates.

CSWO also urged other organizations and likeminded persons to come out in the open and force the Government to take actions on those involved.
