Garo village receives national award

URA: Dobetkolgre Terracegittim VEC of Samanda C&RD Block under East Garo Hills district has been awarded the Best performing Gram Panchayat in India in implementation of MGNREGS 2012-13.

The award was received by Prodip Sangma, Secretary of Dobetkolgre Terracegittim VEC from Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh during MGNREGA Sammelan, on February 2 in New Delhi.

“Dobetkolgre Terracegittim is one of the most successful VEC under Samanda C&RD Block in implementation of this flagship scheme. The people are well aware of the programme and implemented different projects in letter and spirit for the overall development of the society.”

“Some of the assets created in this VEC are drinking water facilities, motorable roads, retaining walls for prevention of soil erosion, Checkdams, Fishery Ponds, Plantation, among others,” said an elated deputy commissioner of East Garo Hills district, Vijay Kumar Mantri, IAS.

According to Mantri, the Samanda C&RD Block has generated 7.62431 lakh mandays by providing employment to 7,654 households under MGNREGS during 2012-13 with an average of 99.6 mandays per household.

The East Garo Hills District provided employment to 52,166 household and generated 50.23427 lakhs mandays with an average of 96.29 per household.

He said that East Garo Hills District is one of the best performing districts in the country in implementation of MGNREGS.

Last year the district received the award for National Award for highest achievement in MGNREGS, wherein Prime Minister handed over the award to the Deputy Commissioner, East Garo Hills district on February 2.
