TURA: North Garo Hills police are on the hunt for suspected A;chik National Liberation Army (ANLA) militants who abducted the aged father of a former militant and shot dead his nephew on Saturday last.

The militants barged into the house of Bitnath Marak in Nogolsong under Mendipather police station and took him away at gunpoint.

The militants were on the hunt for a former colleague known as Ronald Marak who went by the name of Western in the ANLA. He had deserted the group with ten lakh rupees and an AK rifle during an attack on their hideout by rival GNLA militants in South Garo Hills district, last year.

On the trail of their former colleague, the ANLA militants swooped down on the house of Bitnath Marak suspecting him of collaborating with his cousin Western. The deserter ultra had purchased a sumo vehicle and parked it in the house of Bitnath which raised suspicion in the minds of his former comrades.

After abducting Bitnath Marak the militants paid a visit to the family home of Western at Wageasi and took away his aged father. His whereabouts and well being remain unknown to authorities.
