SHILLONG: Reliance customers in Laitumkhrah and adjoining areas are having a harrowing experience in their bid to remain connected with the world. Reliance users residing in Police Point, New Colony, Nongrim Road West have alleged that the connectivity has turned for the worse over the past one month and this has been a recurring problem since January. “The signal strength in my phone has been very low and this seems to be the case with Reliance only,” a Laitumkhrah resident said on condition of anonymity adding that even 3G dongle services have been affected tremendously.

Complaints have come that making phone calls was virtually impossible with disruption of calls being a regular feature. It may be mentioned here that the connectivity tends to improve when users access their phones out of the Laitumkhrah circle. Upon contacting, customer service executives at the Reliance outlet in Laitumkhrah have attributed the problem to the ongoing beautification work and the consequent digging of roads in Laitumkhrah Police Point.

This explanation has remained the same since the beginning of January with continued assurance of improved services at the earliest. With the beautification work bound to take a few more weeks and it’s selective hampering of only Reliance network, it remains to be seen if the concerned telecommunication authorities would take steps to chalk out some immediate measures to rectify the issue.
