UDP to name LS candidate after council polls

SHILLONG: The UDP has decided to announce its candidate for Shillong Lok Sabha seat after February 24 district council elections.
“We would analyse the performance of the party in the district council elections before making a formal announcement of the party candidate for the Lok Sabha seat,” UDP secretary Allantry F Dkhar said here on Friday.
Dkhar, who is also the secretary of the Steering Committee of the non-Congress forces  (NPP, BJP, KHNAM and UDP) to work out on the possibilities to field a consensus candidates, said he had been in touch with all the parties who are part of the committee including KHNAM and HSPDP. “The committee is also expected to meet after the district council election,” UDP secretary said. Earlier, the he UDP had projected the party working president Paul Lyngdoh as its candidate while out rightly rejecting the request of the People’s Candidate Forum (PCF) to support the candidature of Rev PBM Basaiawmoit.
