XIX PSPB Inter Unit Veteran Cricket Tournament

SHILLONG: IOCL started the XIX PSPB Inter Unit Veteran Cricket Tournament on a winning note beating GAIL by 20 runs in the opening encounter of the tourney at the Cricket Ground, Polo here on Friday.
Electing to bat first, IOCL posted a competitive 147 runs on board for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. MD Kumar (45 of 44 balls) and BG Joglekar (42 of 38 balls) helped IOCL reach the more than respectable total of 147. R Joshi grabbed two wickets for GAIL but gave away 26 runs in his four overs. In reply, GAIL were bundled out for 123 runs in 19.2 overs despite a fight put up by R Choudhury (33 of 19 balls).  Sunil Ansari was the pick of the bowlers for IOCL grabbing four wickets from equal number of overs while Kanji Desai took three wickets to seal the first victory of the tournament for IOCL. MD Kumar was adjudged the man-of-the-match.

OIL general manager, Rahul Choudhury was the chief guest while Shillong Cricket Association (SCA) general secretary Gideon Kharkongor was the guest of honour during the inaugural function of the event.
Senior Manager, OIL and the organizing secretary of the tournament, Khirode Chetia delivered the welcome address which was followed by the introduction of the teams, match commissioner and the umpires.
A cultural programme showcasing the State’s heritage was also organized on the occasion.
