BUNDI: A recent survey conducted by Indian Council of Social Sciences Research (ICSSR) has revealed that 75 per cent tribal children in 22 districts of Rajasthan are lagging behind in education and tribal girls are no more enrolling in schools.
The samples of the survey which started in September last year, pictured a grim educational level of the tribal children with 75 per cent drop out of boys in 4th and 5th standards while girls were found not even enrolling in schools, Dr Madan Meena, state coordinator of the survey told PTI.
The survey team comprising 30 members studied the educational status of nomadic and denotified children in 1000 villages of 22 districts of Rajasthan, he said.
Lack of awareness about importance of education among the parents and trend of pushing children into traditional works of the family appeared to be the key reason for the poor educational status, Meena added.
The children of Sansi community are engaged in their traditional family work of preparing country made liquor while the Kanjar community pushed the young girls into prostitution, the survey revealed.
Most of the districts in Rajasthan have been covered in the survey but Dholpur, Churu, Sikar and Bikaner are still to be covered, Meena said adding that the final report and data of the survey would come out in April this year and would be submitted to ICSSR.
Meena said that the aim behind the sample survey is to study educational level of children of these nomadic and de notified tribes for their rehabilitation and educational improvement.
The main districts surveyed so far include Kota, Bundi, Baran, Jhalawar, Bharatpur, Karauli, Swai Madhopur, Bhilwara, Tonk, Jodhpur, Nagaur and Hanumangarh, Meena said.
ICSSR has also taken up the same survey in seven other states, he added. (PTI)
