Vasco (Goa): Nigerian Dudu Omagbemi scored on his debut to guide Salgaocar to a solitary goal win over Mohun Bagan in their return match of the I-League here on Sunday.

Salgaocar scored the winner through Omagbemi in the 59th minute, which saw them retake fifth place, which they gave up to Dempo on Saturday, with 21 points from 15 matches. They are immediately below Shillong Lajong, who have 23 points.

Bagan, playing without star striker Odafa Okolie, had their chances to find the equaliser but failed, remaining in seventh spot with 18 points from 16 matches.

Play was stopped for the last five minutes as there was a power failure that saw the floodlights going off.

Pune-Sporting Clube match ends in draw

Meanwhile, Pune FC had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Sporting Clube de Goa in Pune.

The hosts had many chances in the second half which saw them striking the woodwork apart from having their attempts cleared in front of the goal on several occasions.

In the end, it all boiled down to Beevan D’Mello’s (39th minute) opportunistic opener for Sporting in the first half before striker Thongkhosiem Haokip (56th) equalised for Pune.

With a point each, both teams held on to their respective positions – Pune (25 pts) occupy third place in the table while Sporting (28) are second. (PTI)
