TURA: The war of words between the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) and the newly formed A’chik Songna An’pachakgipa Kotok (ASAK) has reached its peak with the Eastern Area Commander of GNLA, Jimmy Ch Momin making a number of allegations against the commander-in-chief of its rival.
While talking to The Shillong Times on Thursday the GNLA Eastern Area Commander accused the rival militant chief, Reding T Sangma of deserting the ANVC and joining the GNLA merely for monetary gains as well as in fear of action being taken against him by the ANVC leadership for his misdeeds. He also alleged that Reding had the history of drifting from one militant group to the other adding that the current militant group, ASAK was the third that he had switched allegiance to.
“Reding has been known to drift from one militant group to the other. Can someone as fickle minded as him be trusted to work for the interest of the people,” Momin questioned.
He further alleged that Reding had sought permission from GNLA Commander-in-Chief, Sohan D Shira to execute another fellow comrade besides ‘Joksret’ fearing he would reveal his misdeeds. However, he was denied permission after which he deserted the group fearing for his own safety.
On the execution of Joksret, the Area Commander alleged that Reding had hatched a conspiracy to get rid of him and reported him to his superiors claiming him to be a police informer as he knew that the leadership would not tolerate a traitor in their midst. According to claims made by Momin it was only after thorough investigation that they found out he was innocent who fell prey to Reding’s conspiracy.
The GNLA Area Commander also claimed that Reding was incapable of taking on even the functions of a Finance Secretary and questioned how he would take  on the huge responsibility of a commander-in-chief.
Meanwhile, alleging that Reding would have deserted the GNLA if he had his hands on money amounting to crores, the Eastern Area Commander of the GNLA cautioned the ASAK to be aware of their commander-in-chief as he would not hesitate to take the lives of his cadres if they got in his way.
