SHILLONG: The Congress during its campaign in Langpih stressed on the need to have two representatives for Langpih as at present the local legislator K Pangniang is also the MDC.
Addressing the people at the remote Langpih market, bordering Assam, 149 kms from Shillong under Rambrai Constituency, on Friday, the Congress leader John F Kharshiing, urged the people to ensure that they elect a different person than Pangniang. There are so many alternatives just as there are so many important TV news channels and the people should consider having a second option in an MDC.
He also said that the people would themselves be faced with difficulties if they re-elected the sitting MDC Pangniang, who was elected as MLA last year.
Kharshiing reiterated that it was the Constitution of India, the Sixth Schedule, the Village Dorbar, and the agreement of the Hima Khasi States which protected the customary laws, land, forest, water and the mineral resources, and the job of the public representatives especially the MDCs was to ensure that all these traditional laws were well codified and recognized by the Sixth Schedule and the Constitution of India.
He, however, said that the ultimate decision will be taken by the voters and urged all of them not to throw away their right of having two representatives instead of only one. He urged the people at Langpih to ensure they elect Kimfa Marbaniang, as MDC from the Congress party.
Marbaniang, a resident of Rambrai and Congress candidate promised to work sincerely for the people.
