SHILLONG: The BSF-BGB level border talks will be held in Shillong for four days from March 6.

A BSF official informed that though the meeting was earlier scheduled from February 23 at Dawki, it was later decided to hold the meet in Shillong.

While the meeting will be attended by the IGs of Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram Frontiers, two region commanders from BGB from Chittagong and Sarail headquarters, will be present at the meeting.

The official said that the agenda for discussion mostly includes the need to maintain cordial relations and confidence building measures between the BSF and BGB.

The BSF and BGB personnel currently undertake simultaneous patrolling along the borders.

The points which will be taken up by the BSF will include the frequent poaching of forest areas to take away the produce by the Bangladeshi nationals, which, according to the BSF needs to be checked by its counterpart BGB.

However, the concerns of the BGB will be the need on the part of the BSF to check smuggling of phensedyl and liquor to Bangladesh.

Moreover, the issue related to development works within the 150 yards of the Zero Line will also be discussed at the meeting.

Another area of concern is the activities of Indian insurgents in Bangladesh which will also figure in the meeting.

There are hideouts of ULFA and GNLA in Bangladesh and their co ordinate efforts have resulted in spurt in militant activities in Meghalaya and the bordering areas of Assam.
