SHILLONG: Royal Wahingdoh pulled off a triumphant 6-1 victory over Green Valley in an U-19 I-League North East Zone match in Guwahati on Tuesday, with contributions from as many as five players.
Green Valley seized the lead as early as the third minute before throwing away their chance, suffering their second loss to RWFC in the tournament. The Assam team had lost 2-0 in Shillong to the Royals on February 12.
Biswa Dowari was the goal-scorer for Green Valley, but his third minute strike was cancelled out only six minutes later with Rohlupuia scoring the equaliser.
In the 33rd minute, Bibek Bhutia put the Shillong team into the lead before Loken Metei pumped in a brace (50th and 55th minutes) to make the scoreline read 4-1.
Premchand Singh added another in the 81st minute before Naoba Meitei finished off the match with an 89th minute goal.
Wahingdoh now have six points from three games, only losing to Shillong Lajong earlier.
They are second in the table, with Lajong ahead on head-to-head.
Wahingdoh will next play on March 5 against Rangdajied United.
Meanwhile, Lajong will go up against Rangdajied in their second face-to-face encounter on Wednesday at the JN Stadium, Polo, at 1:00pm.
While SLFC will aim to extend their lead at the top of the table, Rangdajied desperately need to get their U-19 campaign up and running.
The junior Blues have netted only one point so far and are in third place, with Green Valley fourth.
Lajong coach Alison Kharsyntiew remains satisfied with the performance of his boys and is hoping for a good result.
“The morale of the team is excellent. It is about being together and united and that is what the boys have done and shown lately,” he was quoted as saying on the club’s website on Tuesday.
