Improvement in Karnataka Minister Ambareesh’s condition
Bangalore: The health condition of actor-turned-politician and Karnataka Housing Minister Ambareesh has improved significantly, hospital sources said on Tuesday. “There is a significant improvement in Amabreesh’s condition. He is almost normal. All his vital organs like heart, kidney and lungs are functioning,” Vikram Hospital Media Coordinator Abdul Haneez said. The 61-year-old leader was admitted to the hospital on February 21 after he complained of breathlessness. Presently he was on ventilator and other medical support measures, Hafeez said. (PTI)
Jaya releases party manifesto for LS polls
Chennai: A day after declaring the list of candidates for the Lok Sabha polls, AIADMK supremo and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Tuesday released the party’s manifesto for the elections, promising development of the state and in the country. “In the election manifesto of AIADMK, we have spelt out many policies and promises to implement schemes aimed at not only the development and growth of Tamil Nadu but the development and growth of Indian nation,” she said. Jayalalithaa released the manifesto here at AIADMK headquarters a day after she announced candidates for all 39 Lok Sabha Seats in her state besides the lone Puduchery constituency. (PTI)
AIADMK functionary hacked to death
Chennai: A 39-year-old functionary of the ruling AIADMK was hacked to death by a group of six men here on Tuesday. The victim, S Arumugam, a resident of Barwa Nagar in Teynampet, was at a tea shop when the six men surrounded and hacked him to death, police said. Arumugam was deputy secretary of the AIADMK in Ward 115 and was a financier by profession, they said. It is suspected that a quarrel related to a finance deal led to the murder. (PTI)
Police officer ends life after shooting wife dead
Raipur: A police officer, who was suspended on Monday after a verbal spat with a local court judge, allegedly shot dead his wife and left two of his children injured before committing suicide by shooting himself in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday. Jagdalpur City Superintendent of Police Devnarayan Patel (40) shot himself with his service weapon after gunning down his wife Pratima (35) at his official residence in Shaket Colony in Jagdalpur in the wee hours. Son Aryan (6) and daughter Puja (11), who were also shot at, have been hospitalised, Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Arun Dev Gautam told PTI. Patel’s wife Pratima died on the spot while the children sustained severe bullet injuries and have been admitted to Ramkrishna Care Hospital in Raipur, the IG said. No suicide note has been recovered from the spot so far and prima facie nothing could be established as a reason behind the incident, the IG said, adding further investigations are on. Patel was suspended yesterday following a verbal spat with Additional District Judge, Bastar, A Toppo on Sunday, the IG said. Sources in the police department said Patel was apparently disturbed over his suspension which led him to take such an extreme step. (PTI)
No more marriages in party offices, says Kerala HC
Kochi: Kerala High Court has held as invalid marriages conducted at the offices of CPI(M) and other political parties. The ruling in this regard was passed on Monday by a division bench comprising justices Antony Dominic and Anil K Narendran on a habeas corpus petition filed by the father of a young woman seeking custody of his daughter, who went missing on February 10. The police produced the woman and informed the court that she had got married on February 19 at the CPI(M) local committee office at Nedumudi in Kuttanad. The bench then held that the marriage was not legally valid as it should either be solemnised before a marriage officer appointed under statutory provisions or as per religious rites. Marriages held at the office of the political parties should not be allowed to be registered under the Kerala Registration of Marriages (Common) Rules 2008, the bench held and directed the Secretary of state and Local-self Government department to issue appropriate directions to their subordinates to prevent such practices. Rajasthan CM flags off 10 night-shelter buses for pavement dwellers
Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Tuesday flagged off ten ‘rain basera’ buses with a view to provide night shelter to pavement dwellers. The buses will be stationed at public spots such as railway stations, bus stands and hospitals, Raje said here. The Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation has provided ten used buses to Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC), RSRTC senior officer Hemant Shrimali said. The buses have been converted into night shelters with its interior and exterior designed to showcase Rajasthani heritage and culture, the official said, adding, the JMC would be bearing its cost and operation.
