One dead in road mishap

SHILLONG: One person died on the way to the hospital and three others sustained injuries when a Maruti Alto (AS10A – 3682) travelling towards Guwahati from Silchar was involved in a head-on collision with a truck (RJ18GA – 2865) coming from the opposite direction.

The incident occurred near the Umroi Airport junction at Umroi under Umsning Block in Ri Bhoi District on Wednesday morning.

Ujjal Das (35) succumbed to his injuries while he was being transported to the hospital. The injured, identified as Rimpa Das (16), Lovely Das (20) and Mithun Deb (27), were shifted to Shillong Civil Hospital.
