SHILLONG/NONGSTOIN: Polling for the two left out villages, Phyllut and Mawkhan

Wahkawang of Pariong- Mawthadraishan constituency in West Khasi Hills district saw a 85% turn out on Wednesday.

According to officials from the district council affairs department, the total turnout after the re- poll stands at 85.09 percent.

Meanwhile, the re-poll conducted under tight security at the polling booth under Nartiang-Umladang constituency in West Jaintia Hills. It recorded 81 percent voters’ turnout.

The re-poll at Umladang was necessitated after an EMV was destroyed at the polling station during the polls on February 24 by a group of 60 to 70 people allegedly supporters of the NCP candidate.

Even after re-poll, the Umladang village is still under surveillance and police have deployed additional forces to guard the entire village.

The good turnout of voters could perhaps decide the fate of the three candidates of the Pariong- Mawthadraishan constituency. Political analysts of the area are of the opinion that the constituency could be the most closely fought amongst all the other constituencies in the KHADC. (with inputs from Our Jowai correspondent)
