TURA: A letter of complaint against the Circle Inspector (CI) of Tura Police Station has been submitted to the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner by two youths along with their respective family members alleging harassment against them.

The incident reportedly took place on the night of February 19 when a school teacher from Tura, C M Momin, S/o (Lt) B K Sangma from Proper Chandmary and a friend R K Marak were picked up by the officer from a roadside near Nepali Puja Mandap at Akonggre and allegedly meted out inhuman treatment.

The complainant C M Momin who recently moved to Akonggre locality after marriage claimed that on that faithful night the two had gone to attend a bachelorette party at the same locality.

Having spent some time there the two had then gone to another friend’s place and were returning to the party around 9:00 pm when the police party led by the CI picked them up.

The two were allegedly severely beaten up and handcuffed for mug shots before being sent to the Tura Civil Hospital for medical examination.

It was only after verification of documents furnished that the two were let off on Personal Bail Bond.

Meanwhile, condemning the inhuman treatment meted out by the concerned officer of the law Momin stated that the people would have no one to look up to in times of distress if officers who were supposed to protect the citizens behave in such a manner and urged the Deputy Commissioner to look into the matter so as to prevent such unwarranted incidents in future as well as to initiate action against the erring officer to instill and repose faith with the administration and law enforcing agencies.
