SHILLONG: The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has projected nearly Rs 2000 crore to the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) to ensure better health services to the people of the Northeastern region.
This was informed by Lov Verma, Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, while speaking at the 2nd annual day celebration at NEIGRIHMS here on Wednesday.
“We have projected a total amount of Rs 1992.96 crore during the 12th Five-Year Plan,” Verma informed.
Verma expressed disappointment that the institute had not been able to utilize the entire fund which was released during the 11th Five-Year Plan. The expenditure details indicated that the entire amount of Rs.321.85 crore had not been fully utilised by the institute.
“I am hopeful that there will be improvement in the performance in the institute in terms of funds utilization,” he said.
The official also informed that the Centre has approved two additional projects in the institute at an estimated Rs.377 crore – setting up of an undergraduate medical college and a regional cancer institute. “The two project is estimated to cost Rs.216.11 crore and Rs 163.92 crore respectively,” Verma said.
