AICC may decide on Congress candidates from Shillong, Tura today

New Delhi: The AICC Central Election Committee once again deferred the decision on the candidates for the two parliamentary seats in Meghalaya which was scheduled for Friday, since Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma had to attend the opening session of the Assembly which began with the customary Governor’s Address.

The meeting will now be held on Saturday morning at 10 Janpath, the official residence of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, AICC sources said.

MPCC president D.D. Lapang and AICC general secretary in charge of Meghalaya, Luizinho Faleiro had already arrived for the meeting.

The CEC comprising senior leaders of the party including Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, vice-president Rahul Gandhi, and headed by Sonia, is taking up the candidates’ lists one by one. Several other north-eastern states barring Meghalaya were taken up for discussion on Friday.

Earlier the PCC and the AICC had decided to discuss the candidature for the two parliamentary seats in Meghalaya after the district council elections in the State.
