JOWAI: Nartiang-Umladang MDC, Thombor Shiwat, was on Friday elected as the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Jaintia Hill Autonomous District Council (JHADC) unopposed.

JHADC Chairman Lait Sing Shylla, who conducted the election, informed the House that only Thombor Shiwat of the Congress had filed his ) nominations and declared him elected as the CEM.

Members of the House including those from the UDP greeted the new CEM and hoped that he will ensure changes in the JHADC.

“If there is a change in the JHADC it means that Jaintia Hills will have a change”, one of the newly elected members said.

Several members including Holando Lamin, MB Rymbai, KM Lyttan, Bisonroy Iano, Phasmon Dkharm, Joinriwel Pyrtuh, A. Andrew Shullai, Winning Garland Sungoh and Shemhok Garod, among others, urged the new CEM to lead the House with transparency free of favouritism and without any bias.

Some newly-elected members recalled that in the previous House, the members were busy fighting for the chair of the CEM and those in power had indulged in misuse of District funds, which is a public money.

Five-time MDC Moonlight Pariat, one of the senior most members, urged the new CEM to check un-necessary utilization of the District Council funds. He also asked the new CEM to find way out to make the JHADC free from financial crisis, a problem that has been recurring for years.
