SHILLONG: The State Government will set up two engineering colleges, one at Ampati and another at Jowai.
Meghalaya Governor KK Paul, while addressing the House on Friday said that the proposal to setup engineering colleges at Ampati and Jowai have been approved under Special Plan Assistance for which land has been identified and preparation of Detailed Project Report and Project Management is being initiated.
While Ampati is the home constituency of the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, the Deputy Chief Minister in charge education RC Laloo represents Jowai.
Paul also said that the National Institute of Technology, Shillong has been set up for degree in engineering courses. Government also encourages private players to start professional, technical and vocational courses in the State for the benefit of the student community, he added.
The Governor said that the Government is considering a proposal for establishment of more polytechnics in other districts.
