Search before polls in Arunachal

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi has directed the IGP to launch extensive round-the-clock patrolling, especially during night hours and extensive checking of the vehicles to prevent carrying of cash and weapons by anti-social elements.

He met the commissioners, secretaries and head of departments here today to sensitize all the senior officers for effective implementation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in the state for the ensuing parliamentary elections on April 9.

Negi emphasised that no fresh administrative approvals should be given till the election is over, a communiqué informed.

During the meeting, the chief secretary informed that due to the implementation of MCC, no new schemes and programme could be started and no fresh tenders would be issued by any of the departments of the state government.

Chief Electorate Officer (CEO) C B Kumar who was also present in the meeting informed that the copies of MCC have been already sent to all the returning and assistant returning officers and they have been directed to inform all the political parties andcontesting candidates about the same, the communiqué added.
