Agartala: Tripura has demanded 108 company additional central paramilitary forces for ensuing Loksabha poll in two seats of Tripura to be held on April 7 and 12 next, home department officials said here on Saturday.

In the initial exercise, the state prepared the requisition of central security force for holding election following demand of all the opposition parties but ECI did not agree with the proposal.

“Finally, we have scale down the demand to 35 companies besides, mobilizing the state police, Tripura State Rifles and other security personnel but the state yet to get any confirmation from ECI in this regards,” the officials said. They however, pointed out with the decline of insurgency and political crimes over the year and the record of peaceful assembly election last year, ECI trusted the state election machineries and security forces.

The state is already having around 30 battalions of different central security forces who will be pressed into action at local level along with additional forces to come ahead of polling, officials added. (UNI)
