27 hyper-sensitive, 44 sensitive polling stations in EJH

JOWAI: The District Administration, East Jaintia Hills District has identified at least 27 hyper-sensitive and 44 sensitive polling stations in the entire district.

East Jaintia Hills has a total of 112 polling stations out of which 41 polling stations are being treated as normal.

Speaking to media persons here, the EJH Deputy Commissioner, WR Lyngdoh said, “The sensitivity of polling stations will not remain the same and we are doing a regular update in this regard”.

For peaceful conduction of the Lok Sabha Election, the DC also informed that EJH district has been divided into 16 sectors and each sector will be supervised by magistrates.

A team of Flying Squads, Video Surveillance Team and a team of static surveillance were also constituted in order to check violation of the Model Code of Conduct which has come in to effect immediately after the announcement of the Election by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Cells including complaint cells and an Election Control Room each headed by a Magistrate has been set up DC Office, Khliehriat. Any complainants can call Mobile No. 98630-31996 and the Control Room Telephone No. is 230714.

Prohibitory Order: The EJH Deputy Commissioner has under Section 144 CrPC has prohibited all individual(s) from carrying all kinds of weapons including lethal weapons, guns and other weapons.

“We have issued an order and directed all License Holders in the district to immediately deposit their guns in the nearest Police Station, Police Outpost or Beat House”, Lyngdoh said, adding that, “We will cancel their license if anyone is found to violate the order”.

Restrictions imposed: Carrying of cash beyond Rs. 50, 000 is punishable as per the directive of the Election Commission of India. Therefore the EJH DC has issued an order prohibiting any persons carrying cash beyond the permissible limits.

With the Module Code of Conduct coming in to force, the DC has said, no one is allowed to use loud speakers and speakers inside cars without prior permission from the concerned authority. If such permission is granted, use of loud speakers is allowed only from 6:00 am till 10:00pm.

Election Expenses: As per the ECI, the maximum expenditure of a candidate is Rs. 35 lakh only.

Special Campaign in all Polling Stations: With an aim to check that no eligible voters are being left out and those who have EPICs but names disappeared from the e-Roll and to prevent any complaint from being unable to vote, the ECI has directed that a Special Camp should be organized in every polling stations.

The EJH DC informed that a special camp in the district will be organized on March 12. He requested the voters to actively take parts in the special campaigns.
