SHILLONG: A suspected militant of the ANVC-B outfit was nabbed by Borsora police in South West Khasi Hills district while he was extorting money from traders at gunpoint on Sunday.
Police nabbed Wansimphang Snaitang of Kulang while he was extorting money from petty traders of Borsora with a revolver. From his possession they recovered the hand gun with one live round and also eight numbers of 12 bore rifle ammunition.
During interrogation he confessed to be extorting money on behalf of the ANVC-B outfit. This is the second ANVC-B militant to be arrested from Borsora region in the last few months.
In December, Mithun Sangma of ANVC-B was nabbed from Lailat, near Borsora. He had opened fire on a Bengali tea stall owner identified as one Das killing him on the spot. The victim was killed for failing to pay tax to the outfit.
Borsora is a major coal export region of South West Khasi Hills and many militant groups including GNLA have been targeting the area for its lucrative coal trade.
Late last year, Mawkyrwat police nabbed two HNLC militants from a public bus at Jakrem and based on their confession two other over ground workers were also arrested. The arrested militants had planned to travel down to Borsora for an extortion drive.
