SHILLONG: The Government is grooming militants by not developing several rural roads in the remote areas of Garo Hills, according to Independent legislator Saleng Sangma from Gambegre.

During the Question Hour, Sangma wanted to know from the PWD Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar as to why the PWD road Mitap-Gasuapara has not been made motorable, which according to him resulted in militants taking advantage of the situation.

Sangma pointed out that several policemen were killed in the past adjacent to this road since the area was not motorable.

When a question was raised on lack of road development resulting in spurt in militant activities, the Minister said that he cannot reply since the matter relates to insurgency.

However, Sangma insisted that lack of development and insurgency is very much connected.
