Paul seeks probe into cops’ hand in coal trade

SHILLONG: UDP legislator Paul Lyngdoh has demanded a probe into the entry of police officials into the lucrative coal business.

“I know there are many policemen who are into the coal business,” Lyngdoh said while participating in the debate on the Governor’s address in the Budget session of the Meghalaya assembly on Monday.

While their primary duties of maintenance of law and order as a police officer had taken a back seat, the UDP it was found they were too busy in their coal business.

“We need to have a through probe since people who have sworn to ensure the safety and security of the citizens can be engaging themselves in coal business,” Lyngdoh said.
