Donald’s fiery bowling helps Meghalaya trounce Manipur

By Our Reporter

SHILLONG: Meghalaya on Monday registered a hat trick of wins defeating formidable North East rival Manipur by a huge margin of 104 runs, thanks to outstanding bowling display by Donald Nongkseh who ripped apart the Manipur batting line-up claiming six wickets, during their encounter in the BCCI A&A Under-19 Tournament being played at Jharkhand.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Meghalaya amassed 193 all out in 47.3 overs. Rohit Thapa continued with his good form top scoring with 62 runs followed by notable contributions from Swarjeet (25) and Pranoy (23).

In reply Manipur began in the worst possible manner, losing quick wickets to be reduced to 33 for 5. The wrecker-in-chief was Donald Nongkseh who subjected the Manipur batters to a hostile spell of incisive medium pace bowling.

Donald carried over his splendid form from the last match against Arunachal Pradesh where he had claimed five wickets conceding a miserly 18 runs. Against Manipur, his figures read six wickets for 45 runs.

Manipur could never recover from the early bating collapse and their innings folded in just 19.1 overs with a total of 89 runs. L.R. Meitan Keishan top scored for Manipur with 29 runs.

Meghalaya, who are now virtually assured of a place in the finals, will play their last league match against Bihar on Tuesday.
