Saradha group vice president arrested
Kolkata: Days after being granted bail, vice president of Saradha media group Somnath Dutta was today arrested in connection with a forgery case related to Saradha chit fund scam, the police said. Dutta, the vice president of Saradha’s media group, was arrested by personnel of Sreerampore police station in Hooghly district on the basis of a forgery case filed against him in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam. Dutta, was arrested last year by personnel of Bidhannagar police commissionerate in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam. He was granted bail in that case a few days back. (PTI)
Sheila Dikshit sworn-in as Kerala Governor
Thiruvananthapuram: Veteran Congress leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit was sworn in as Kerala Governor at the Raj Bhavan here on Tuesday. Kerala High Court Chief Justice Manjula Chellur administered the oath of office. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and his cabinet colleagues were also present on the occasion. 75-year old Dikshit succeeds Nikhil Kumar, who resigned as the state’s Governor to contest in upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Aurangabad seat in Bihar. A group of well-wishers of Dikshit, including her family members and former cabinet colleagues, were present at the occasion. (PTI)
Kejriwal to host fund-raising dinner in Nagpur on Mar 13
Nagpur: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is organising a fund-raising dinner with its national president Arvind Kejriwal as host at a price of Rs 10,000 per person on March 13 at a luxury hotel in Sadar here. The party is getting response for the event and the number of those likely to attend it could be between 150 and 200, AAP’s media coordinator and fund-raising dinner organiser Girish Nandgaonkar and spokesperson Prajakta Atul said. The registrations are going on and Nagpur Lok Sabha candidate Anjali Damania will also be present at the dinner. “The dinner is basically for our donors and we will put up all names on our AAP Nagpur website,” a release from AAP said here last night. Kejriwal will be arriving in the city on March 13 on a two-day tour of the region. The former Delhi chief minister will be touring Chandrapur and Bhandara Lok Sabha constituencies and attend the dinner the same night with donors. (PTI)
Over 33,000 riot refugees apply to register in voters list
Muzaffarnagar: Over 33 thousand displaced riots victims of the Muzaffarnagar communal violence have applied to enrol in electoral list from new places in the district, a senior official said here on Tuesday. “At least 33,022 people displaced due to riots have applied for the enrolment in voter list and it is being considered to enrol them from new places,” District Magistrate and District Election officer Koshal Raj Sharma said. To facilitate enrolment of people displaced during Muzaffarnagar riots in electoral list, the Election Commission has launched a special drive in 22 villages where the riots victims have been rehabilitated. The riots in Muzaffarnagar in September last year left over 60 people dead and rendered 40,000 homeless who had to seek shelter in relief camps. (PTI)
Gold biscuits worth Rs 1.5 crore seized
Nagapattinam (TN): Over seven kg of gold biscuits worth Rs 1.5 crore have been seized by a team of election officials from a bus near Vedaranyam in the district. The seizure was made late last night during vehicle checks, officials said, adding one person has been arrested in this connection. The bus was going towards Chennai when it was stopped. (PTI)
