Pala’s name gets AICC seal

New Delhi: The AICC on Wednesday night finally ended the suspense over Congress candidates for the Shillong and Tura Lok Sabha seats in Meghalaya, clearing the nomination of sitting MP Vincent H. Pala at Shillong and Daryl at Tura.

The formal announcement of Pala’s name as well as Daryl’s is likely to take place on Thursday, sources said. Pala’s nomination was kept pending for Congress president Sonia Gandhi to take a final decision following stiff opposition from Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma and a few MLAs, mainly independents. It was cleared by her on Tuesday but was again referred to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi who gave the final green signal on Wednesday night. Daryl’s name was mentioned for the Tura seat in the list of candidates which was cleared by the Congress Election Committee on Wednesday, instead of that of Zenith Sangma.

Pala expressed his happiness over his renomination. “I have full faith on the state party unit and the party high command and all of us will work unitedly,” he said.
