SHILLONG: Rangdajied United FC registered a 7-1 victory over Green Valley FC in their penultimate U-19 I-League North East Zone match at the JN Stadium, Polo, on Wednesday.
Neither side had a chance to qualify for the main round, which was claimed by Shillong Lajong on Tuesday, but the junior Blues went about their business all the same, riding on Michael Kurbah’s hat-trick.
In the most one-sided match of the Zone, Khraw Kurbah opened the scoring in the 20th minute for RUFC and Michael added his first seven minutes later.
Sheen Stevenson then extended the hosts’ lead to 3-0 in the 35th minute.
Stamping their authority further, the Blues continued to press on, with Michael claiming his second goal in the 41st minute and he then completed his hat-trick just before half time.
In the second session, the Guwahati club managed to pull one goal back, but Banshan (59th minute) and Mebanshan Suting (70th) added further to the visitors’ woes.
This was Rangdajied’s first victory in five matches in the U-19 tournament. The margin of victory also ensured that they turned their goal difference from negative to positive.
Two more inconsequential matches are scheduled before the qualifiers are officially wrapped up.
In the first, on March 17, Green Valley will host Shillong Lajong in Guwahati, while Royal Wahingdoh face Rangdajied a day later at the JN Stadium.
