SHILLONG: Shillong Press Club went down in their third consecutive match, this time losing to Raj Bhawan by 68 runs in their SCA Corporate Cum Office League match at the Cricket Ground, Polo, on Thursday afternoon.
Raj Bhawan won the toss and chose to bat first, with Robin Chettri blasting a maiden hundred (103) off just 55 deliveries. His team eventually posted 180/6 in 20 overs, a run rate of exactly nine an over.
Neeraj returned the best figures for the pressmen – 3-33 in four overs.
The SPC were under the pump from the beginning and were able to go at a respectable seven runs an over, though still well short of the required rate, but a steady loss of wickets saw them all out for 112 in 16 overs.
This was their first score above 100, enabling them to take at least one positive away from the game.
Dinesh took 3-27 in four overs for Raj Bhawan, while Aafaque top-scored with 18 runs for the press.
Meanwhile, in the other fixture, Sales XI scored 135/7 in 20 overs after winning the toss against 1st MLP.
Kalyan Bhattacharjee made 27 runs, while Kumar Sewa bagged 2-14 in four overs. In reply, 1st MLP reached the target in 14.5 overs for the loss of only two wickets. Kumar Sewa top-scored with 74 runs.
On Friday, Veterinary will play SS Net Com at 9:00am, while 6th MLP face MeECL at noon.
