Guwahati: The regional Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on Friday released its manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections, with the illegal migrants and price rise being among its major poll planks.
AGP president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, releasing the manifesto at the party headquarters here, said the party will strive to work as the ‘voice of Assam’ and claimed that its members in Parliament have also played a pro-active role in issues relating to the state.
On the main issues for the party this election, he said the matter of price rise and inflation will be taken up seriously before the voters by the AGP.
Decentralization of power and equal growth of all regions will also figure prominently in the AGP’s agenda.
Mahanta alleged that the issue of infiltration has been kept unsolved by the Congress and it will be highlighted before the voters by the AGP, which will also take up the issue of Assam Accord implementation.
Meanwhile, the party today also announced retaining its lone representative in the outgoing Lok Sabha, Joseph Topno, as its candidate for Tezpur constituency.
With this, the AGP has so far announced its nominees for eight seats.
As per the candidates list, Rajya Sabha member Birendra Prasad Baishya will contest from the Guwahati seat and AGP legislative party chief Phani Bhusan Choudhury will be fielded from Barpeta constituency.
Former Lok Sabha member Dr Arun Sarma has been named as the party candidate from Koliabor, Mridula Borkakoty from Nagaon, former MLA Anup Phukan from Dibrugarh, former state minister Pradip Hazarika from Jorhat and Hariprasad Dihingia from Lakhimpur. (UNI)
