SHILLONG: The Seng Samla Mawlai Mawdatbaki has slammed Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh for claiming that Mawlai locality is a ‘slum area’.
“We consider this statement of the Urban Affairs Minister which she had made in the Assembly as an insult to the people of the locality. We want to ask the Minister that only because a section of Mawlai is under the Shillong Municipal Board, she cannot term the whole of Mawlai as a slum,” SSMM president W Kharpran said in a statement issued here on Sunday.
In its emergency meeting held on Saturday, he said that they decided to ban the visit of Lyngdoh in Mawlai Mawdatbaki.
“We are aware that recently the Urban Affairs Minister came to campaign during the district council elections. From now onwards, she will not be allowed to visit any part of Mawlai Mawdatbaki,” Kharpran said.
He also urged upon the Mawlai Town Dorbar (MTB) to hold a rally to temporary close the dumping ground at Marten in Mawlai Mawiong since maximum of the garbage which are being dumped are from Lyngdoh’s constituency.
