SHILLONG: UDP candidate for Shillong constituency Paul Lyngdoh will file his nomination papers for the April 9 Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday.
Lyngdoh will file his papers after the Assembly session, which normally ends at 2 pm.
The UDP had recently nominated its working president and Shillong West legislator Paul Lyngdoh for the Lok Sabha election here but two regional parties are opposing his candidature.
The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) and the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) have refused to support Lyngdoh, but the National People’s Party has promised to support the UDP nominee.
BJP denial: Meanwhile, BJP has denied reports that the party would support UDP candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat.
In a statement issued here, the general secretary of State BJP Dipayan Chakraborty said that the central leadership of the party has not yet finalized candidates in some seats among which Shillong is one.
“The state leadership is in touch with the central leaders and we have full confidence that no decision will be taken by the central leadership without intimating the same to the state unit,” Chakraborty said.
