Agartala: Police has launched a hunt for senior most Professor and In-charge Director of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Agartala S C Saha for allegedly physically assaulting a faculty in the campus Friday.
The victim faculty of Electrical Department Dr Bidyut Bhattacharjee registered an FIR against Prof Saha for assaulting him in presence of students in the campus and threatening him to kill unless he leaves the job. Prof Saha was unhappy with the recommendation of Dr Bhattacharjee regarding an investigation report over the alleged abuse of a sub-ordinate by Prof Saha last month.
The report accused Prof Saha of abusing a sub-staff, a few days ago that put the Professor into trouble. It is also reported that Prof Saha allegedly has been pressurising Dr Bhattacharjee to withdraw the recommendation against him but it was refused.
According to complaints, Prof Saha met Dr Bhattacharjee in the campus road near Electronic building  Friday. He stopped Dr Bhattacharjee and threatened him to terminate from the job unless he withdraws the report against him.
“Prof Saha has stepped down from the vehicle and beaten me up in front of student but when student rushed towards me, he ran away from the campus. He also threatened me to kill if I pursue the incident further at any level,” Dr Bhattacharjee alleged. However, police in Jirania station informed they have investigated the case and launched search against Prof Saha who is stated to be absconding.
Meanwhile, the faculty raised voice against the campus administration saying that Prof Saha and two of his associates Dr Sujit Pal and Dr Rupnarayan Roy have been creating nuisance in the campus for past few months taking the advantage of frequent absence of the Director Prof Gopal Mugarai. (UNI)
