SHILLONG: The Tura NPP candidate and former Lok Sabha Speaker PA Sangma campaigned in Ampati, the home constituency of Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Saturday and exposed the grave law and order situation citing the case of Ampati where shops down their shutters at 4 pm every day.
Sangma and his daughter Agatha addressed a gathering on a market day and found that due to the law order problem, the market closes early.
“Ampati is a village and the town of Chief Minister, but I was surprised to see that the shops close at 4 pm. If the shops down their shutters in the constituency of Chief Minister so early, you can image the overall law and order situation in Garo Hills,” Sangma said over phone.
Sangma said he had told the gathering that how can the Chief Minister ensure law and order in the whole state when “a sense of insecurity prevails among the people of his own constituency.”
He also said that when he crossed the road at around 5. 30 pm, he could not find any human being on the road.
In her speech, Agatha said that since the Chief Minister could not solve the problem of insurgency, “it is time to send a seasoned politician like PA Sangma to Delhi.”
She also said that a new entrant like the Congress candidate Darly Momin would not be able to solve the serious problems being faced by Garo Hills.
Referring to the ‘death wish’ comments by the Chief Minister against her father, Agatha said her father was committed to work for Garo Hills and hence he joined the fray and if he was thinking for himself, he would have rested.
