JOWAI: Taking a break from the hectic election campaigns, the Independent candidate for Shillong Lok Sabha seat, Rev PBM Basaiawmoit preached the need to eradicate corruption and to ensure peace and love at a church gathering on Sunday.

Corruption is rising high in our State as many have forgotten God and do not trust in Him anymore, the Pastor said at the closing ceremony of the 125th year of the Presbyterian Church, Mustem village.

The jubilee celebration started on October 6, 2013.

Basing his sermon from the book of Prophet Issaiah 26:1-6, Rev Basaiawmoit said, “Trust in the Lord always and never doubt God’s Power”.

Rev. Basaiawmoit also said that when there is emptiness in life, there is no peace. “But when there is completeness and wholeness, there is eternal peace”, the Pastor added.

The service on Sunday was chaired by Pastor in Charge, Mustem Presbyterian Church, Rev. K Dkhar.

The Presbyterian Church at Mustem village under Jowai -Riwar Presbytery in West Jaintia Hills District was established in 1889.

Ms Don Shylla along with 25 others including 14 men and 11 women members were the first group of villagers who converted to Christianity. The centennial celebration was inaugurated on October 6, last year by the Senior Executive Secretary, KJP Assembly, Rev. NS Phawa.

The closing ceremony on Sunday was attended by Rev. L Nongrud besides other church ministers and church elders from Jowai and other churches under Mustem District.

Choir groups including Phlonging Khaw Presbyterian Church, Mupyut, Shillong Mizo Church Choir, Jowai Presbyterian Church, Demthring, Sohmynting and Mustem sang in both the services.
