MPBSE Class XII paper leaked, exams cancelled

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education’s (MPBSE) Class XII Mathematics question paper was leaked on Monday following which the Board has decided to cancel it. According to a statement issued by the Board here, the examination would now be conducted at examination centres between 0830 hrs and 1130 hrs on April 12. The Board had earlier decided to conduct the examination on April 7 but extended the date in view of Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) examination on April 6. The Mathematics question paper was leaked in Gwalior and Vidisha districts. A First Information Report (FIR) was lodged when the matter came to light. The Board has ordered an inquiry into the matter. (UNI)

9 members of notorious ‘Kondapetty’ dacoity gang arrested

Karnataka: Police have arrested nine people from Tamil Nadu belonging to notorious Kondapetty gang’ on charges of committing dacoity in Bethamangala town in Kolar district last year robbing Rs 26 lakh worth of gold jewellery, silver articles and cash from a house. Police said three teams had been formed after the crime was committed and based on information collected, the gang was identified and found that they had committed similar crimes in Hindupur district of Andhra Pradesh earlier. Of the arrested, five were arrested when they were conspiring at a dhaba near Vyupanapalli in Tamil Nadu close to Karnataka border, to commit another crime early this month. The four others were nabbed in Chennai a few days later, a police press release said. The arrested were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody. Police have seized stolen articles including gold ornaments and vehicles valued at Rs 24.5 lakh. (UNI)

Gang of 7 poachers arrested

Hassan: The Hassan district forest officials arrested a gang of seven poachers involved in killing barking deer in the forests near Bababudanagiri hills in Chikamagalur taluk. Official sources said an imported rifle, 16 live cartridges, two four-wheelers, and cash Rs 89,000 have been recovered from them. Deputy Conservator of Forests Raviraj Narayan said the incident occurred on Sunday early morning when the staff noticed the gang in the forests they had shot at a barking deer. They had a .316 riffle deadly weapon, even an elephant can be killed in one shot. The gang was also involved in similar incidents earlier too. They were wanted in cases reported in Chamarajanagar and Chikmagalur ranges earlier. The arrested were Younis Khan, Ibrahim Khan, Tabreez Ahmed, Shabeer Ahmed, Nayaz and Ramesh Naik and Shekhar. The arrested were produced before a Judicial Magistrate who remanded them to judicial custody. (UNI)

Three killed in paper mill mishap

Jaipur: Three persons, including an owner of a cardboard and paper factory, were on Monday killed when they fell in a tank of pulp after losing consciousness due to suspected poisonous gas during an inspection in Sanganer area here. The deceased were identified as Naeemudeen (owner), Daulat Ram Meena and Majeed (both workers), police said. Due to suffocation, the the three fell into the tank and were found dead when the cops reached, they said. The bodies were taken out and sent for postmortem, they said. The factory was closed for some time and the three had gone to examine the machines and material when the mishap occurred, police said. (PTI)

Seven family members found dead

Kutch: Seven members of a family, including three minor children, were found dead at their home in a village here, police said on Monday. Preliminary investigation indicate that two brothers Raghu Jaru (32) and Lakhu (30) along with their respective spouses Laxmi (30) and Kanku (28) committed suicide by hanging themselves after they allegedly poisoned their three children to death. The four were found hanging from the roof of their home in Ningal village of Kutch’s Anjar taluka while Lakhu’s son Shaswat (4), daughter Prachi (5) and Raghu’s son Shyam (7) were found unconscious on the bed by the neighbours last night, Anjar police sub-inspector U D Jadeja said. He said all the family members went inside their house at around 7 PM and did not come out till 10 PM, which made the neighbours suspicious. “Primary investigation revealed that the parents first killed their three children by giving them poison and then hanged themselves,” said Jadeja, who ruled out financial crisis as the reason. Minor raped by three youths

Moga: A 14-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped by three youths at Badhni Kalan village in this district. A case has been registered against the youths on charges of kidnapping the student of a government school. The three accused, including Sukhjiwan Singh and Jagseer Singh, who had come in a car, forcibly took the girl to a secluded place where she was raped on Saturday, police said. After committing the crime, the accused, all in their early 20s, escaped leaving behind the victim, police said. On reaching home, she narrated her ordeal to her parents who reported the matter to the Police. The statement of the girl has been recorded and three youths have been booked. No arrest has been made, police said, adding that raids were being conducted to arrest the youths. (PTI)

IIP get Rs 70 cr for infrastructure

Hyderabad: Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) Director Prof N C Saha on Monday disclosed that the Ministry of Commerce has sanctioned the IIP Rs 70 crore for infrastructure development. Participating in the 8th annual day celebrations of IIP here, Prof Saha said the total project outlay of the infrastructure development was Rs 250 crore. Prof Saha said with the amount being sanctioned, it has taken up construction of six storeyed building to house its Mumbai office for academics, hostel and lab facilities, The IIP in Mumbai has 11 acres land. The first tower construction was already started and will be ready by 2016. In the last 48 years, it has expanded to Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai. It has set up a regional center in Hyderabad eight years ago. The 7th Center is coming up at Guwahati. The Central Government has already sanctioned Rs five crore for the construction of a Regional Center in Guwahati, he said. (UNI)
